Through mentorship, leadership training, educational support, athletic programs, and community service projects, we provide youth with the resources and guidance needed to pursue higher education, develop life skills, and become self-reliant leaders. Our impact extends far beyond local neighborhoods, reaching communities across the United States and internationally as we work to unite people through culture, service, and meaningful opportunities for growth.
At the Liahona Foundation, we believe that when we invest in our youth, preserve our heritage, and serve one another, we build stronger communities today and a brighter future for generations to come.
The Liahona Foundation traces its roots back to the vision of founder Sione T. Kinikini, who began with a simple goal: to provide young people with a safe and positive environment where they could learn music, develop discipline, and build confidence. Starting with just eight members, the community band was established to teach youth how to play band instruments while fostering teamwork, leadership, and a sense of belonging.
Today, the band continues its proud tradition with more than 70 musicians and dancers. Through vibrant performances, the group preserves and celebrates Polynesian culture by sharing music, dance, and rhythms inspired by the rich island traditions of the Pacific. The sounds of brass instruments, percussion, and traditional drumbeats continue to bring communities together while honoring the heritage and spirit of generations past.
What began as a small musical program quickly grew into something much greater. As the needs of the community evolved, so did the mission of the organization. While music and cultural preservation remain at the heart of the Foundation, the impact now extends far beyond the band room. Today, the Liahona Foundation serves a broader population by providing resources, mentorship, and opportunities that support academic achievement, athletic participation, leadership development, and personal growth.
Guided by the same principles upon which it was founded—service, culture, education, self-reliance, and community—the Foundation continues to empower youth and families to reach their full potential. By creating pathways to success and investing in future generations, the Liahona Foundation remains committed to building stronger communities both locally and internationally.
